SA celebrates Mandela Day

Nelson Mandela, a civil rights activist, president of South Africa for a lustrum, Nobel Peace Prize and our beloved Tata, Madiba made an impact on South Africa and the world.

Born on the 18^th of July 1918, for 67 years of his life, 27 of them imprisoned for his anti-apartheid beliefs and actions, he campaigned for human rights. The United Nations declared his day of birth as Nelson Mandela International Day as a way to honor his legacy.

On this day, we dedicate 67 minutes of our day to “give back” to those in need, and ideally contribute to global humanitarianism.

On his 90th birthday Mandela proclaimed that :
“It is time for new hands to lift the burdens. It is your hands now.”

This call-to-action started a worldwide movement for social change.

Ideally “Mandela Day calls on us all, every day, to make the world a better place. Each year on 18 July we look back on what has been done, and forward to what will be done,” the Nelson Mandela Foundation said.
