Pronoia is a neologism coined to explain the delusion that others think well of one. A positive counterpart of paranoia (“everyone is out to get you”), pronoia promotes thinking that one’s thought and deed is received and praised. It describes a philosophy that the world is set up to secretly benefit people.
In a technologically savvy world accelerated with the influence of social media. “mere acquaintances are thought to be close friends; politeness and the exchange of pleasantries are taken as expressions of deep attachment and the promise of future support”.
Whilst some argue that pronoia is an attitude we should all aspire to inculculate, others maintain that the opinions of others based on uncertain criteria is irrelevant. Still, the thought that universe is conspiring IN my favour, is oddly comforting.
“Who knows? Life may just be a Positive Conspiracy bent on putting us in the right place at the right time every living, breathing moment of the day. It just takes a certain kind of perspective to see this. Realizing this can put our “analyzer” on hold, our interpretive mind on “ga-ga” and our hearts on breathless.”
